McCarthy's Feedbag Mock Draft Update

1. Detroit Lions - Mark Sanchez, QB, USC. I honestly think Sanchez is better than Stafford, and it should show at the combine. It's becoming almost unanimous that the Lions will take Stafford, but I'm going to disagree. Stafford has more experience, but Sanchez has more of the "NFL look." No, they shouldn't take a QB, but they're stupid enough to do it.

2. St. Louis Rams - Andre Smith, OT, Alabama. The Ram's offense has been on the downward spiral for a couple of years now, and the source of that is the inability to protect the QB. In comes Andre Smith, a big, fast monster that will replace the aging Orlando Pace. This pick should be automatic.

3. Kansas City Chiefs - Aaron Curry, LB, Wake Forest. Did you see Kansas City try to stop the run last year? It was pathetic. Curry's a fast run-stopper that can start instantly for the struggling Chiefs' defense.

4. Seattle Seahawks - Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech. Crab's one of the dynamic receivers I've ever seen. After losing Deion Branch, Bobby Engram, and Nate Burleson for most of the year (Burleson for the entire season), Seattle could use a weapon like Crabtree.

5. Cleveland Browns – Chris Wells, RB, Ohio State. Jamal Lewis isn’t getting any younger or any better. Wells is a homer who has the chance to take the starting job by the middle of the season.

Previous pick: Aaron Maybin, DE/OLB, Penn State

6. Cincinnati Bengals – Jason Smith, OT, Baylor. I previously had Michael Oher in this spot, but I think that Smith is better. He’s said to have the best footwork of all the lineman, and Cincy will take notice.

Previous pick: Michael Oher, OT, Ole Miss

7. Oakland Raiders - Jeremy Maclin, WR, Missouri. The Raiders' receiving corps were far and away the worst in the league, and maybe the worst ever. If TE Zach Miller hadn't had a solid year, we could have witnessed the worst passing offense in the history of the NFL. Maclin's an all-around playmaker that will help out the struggling JaMarcus Russell.

8. Jacksonville Jaguars – Michael Oher, OT, Ole Miss. I swapped Oher and Smith basically because Smith has the footwork advantage. However, they’ll likely both be effective linemen in the NFL.

Previous pick: Jason Smith, OT, Baylor

9. Green Bay Packers – Aaron Maybin, DE/OLB, Penn State. Maybin’s perfect for the 3-4. He has the strength to go against tackles, and the speed and elusiveness to get to the quarterback. The Packer Nation should be excited to hear his name called on draft day.

Previous pick: Everette Brown, DE, Florida State

10. San Francisco 49ers - Matt Stafford, QB, UGA. I have a gut feeling that either Stafford or Sanchez will slip and if it's Stafford, he won't get past No. 10. Alex Smith is officially a huge bust, and there's no future with Shaun Hill or J.T. O'Sullivan.

11. Buffalo Bills - Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Oklahoma St. Robert Royal is the starter for Buffalo. Enough said.

12. Denver Broncos – B.J. Raji, DT, Boston College. Raji’s tore it up at the Senior Bowl, and the Broncos could really use a guy like him. There’s no way they’ll accept another 27th-ranked rushing defense again.

Previous pick: Chris Wells, RB, Ohio State

13. Washington Redskins - Rey Maualuga, LB, USC. Kiper has this guy slipping to the Lions at 20, but I don't see it. He's impressing at the senior bowl, and the 'Skins won't let him sneak by.

14. New Orleans Saints - Michael Jenkins, CB, Ohio St. If Jenkins manages to slip this far, it's a crime. He's the best CB in the draft, and New Orleans could use an elite player like him. I could see the Packers taking him, too.

15. Houston Texans - Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia. Quarterback protection has been a problem since the team was created. You can never have enough good offensive tackles.

16. San Diego Chargers - Knowshon Moreno, RB, UGA. LT's on the downslide, and it's evident. He's been injury prone the last two years, and Darren Sproles isn't an every-down back. Moreno's arguable the best RB in the draft, and the Bolts could use a little electricity.

17. New York Jets - Brian Orakpo, DE, Texas. Orakpo shouldn't be available at this point, but if he is, he could really help out the Jets. Their interior line was stellar, but they could use a little more help ont he outside.

18. Chicago Bears - Vontae Davis, CB, Illinois. Believe it or not, the Bears had the third-worst pass defense in the league last year. Davis will start right away, and become a playmaker for the Bears down the road.

19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Hakeem Nicks, WR, UNC. Nicks is a freak of nature, and the Bucs don't have any playmakers at WR. Antonio Bryant came on late, but he's not a No. 1. If you managed to see Nicks play last year, you'll know why Tampa Bay needs him.

20. Detroit Lions (from Cowboys) - Brian Cushing, LB, USC. Cushing flew under the radar on an elite USC defense and an elite fellow-LB in Maualuga. The Lions need help everywhere, and linebacker is atop the list.

21. Philadelphia Eagles - William Moore, S, Missouri. Unfortunately, Brian Dawkins can't play forever. And if you saw the loss at Arizona, you'd see that they were burned over the top for big plays. Moore might not start right away, but he'll grow into the starting role in Philly.

22. Minnesota Vikings - D.J. Moore, CB, Vanderbilt. The Vikings' only weakness last year on their defense was at corner. Moore could see some nickel-package looks, and maybe even take the CB No. 2 spot.

23. New England Patriots - James Laurinaitis, LB, Ohio St. He's a leader that can step in and start right away for the aging Pats' defense. He's a great pick at this point in the draft.

24. Atlanta Falcons - Tyson Jackson, DE, LSU. I could see them trading up to get Pettigrew here. But Jackson would be great on the other side of John Abraham for the impressive Falcons.

25. Miami Dolphins - Larry English, LB, No. Illinois. Being a MAC follower, English is for real. If there's a top WR here, expect the Fins to take him, but they won't pass on English if he's available here.

26. Baltimore Ravens - Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR, Maryland. Unfortunately for the Ravens, all of the top WRs will be gone at this point. Heyward-Bey is a redzone target that even Joe Flacco can't miss.

27. Indianapolis Colts - Peria Jerry, DT, Ole Miss. The Colts' rushing defense has always been a problem (especially if Bob Sanders is out), and Jerry will be a gap-filler.

28. Philadelphia Eagles - LeSean McCoy, RB, Pitt. Brian Westbrook won't play forever. Tear. McCoy young, but has the ability to excel in the NFL. Nice draft for the Eagles so far.

29. New York Giants - Michael Johnson, DE, Ga Tech. We know that the Giants don't care what the need is. And with Osi Umenyiora coming back from injury and Mathias Kiwanuka a bust, Johnson could get some reps for Big Blue.

30. Tennessee Titans – Everette Brown, DE, Florida State. This might be a little far for him to slip, but you never know. Tennessee’s defensive line is stacked, but their age might become a factor.

Previous pick: B.J. Raji, DE, Boston College

31. Arizona Cardinals - Duke Robinson, G, OU. The Cards' offense was electric this past year. Unfortunately, they won't be able to get a RB at this point, but there is a lot of depth in this draft, so there's no need to rush it.

32. Pittsburgh Steelers - Max Unger, C, Oregon. Uhhh, yeah. Pittsburgh's O-Line was a wreck this year. Look for them to start from the middle with either Unger or Cal's Alex Mack.
